Kristen Moss Theriault is quickly becoming established as one of Canada’s most gifted and innovative harpists. She is equally comfortable in all genres of music, whether presenting classical showpiece solos, playing with major symphony orchestras, sharing the stage with experimental musicians such as Sook Yin Lee or playing downtown Toronto clubs with the avant-vaudville orchestra, The Lollipop People. Originally from Portland, Oregon, Kristen completed her Bachelors of Music in harp performance with celebrated recording artist Dr. Carrol McLaughlin at the University of Arizona, and then went on to receive her Masters degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied with world-renowned harpist Judy Loman. Interested in all facets of music, Kristen also attended the prestigious Henry Mancini Jazz Institute on a full scholarship, where she was able to perform in both large and small jazz ensembles under the tutelage of distinguished teachers and jazz artists such as Jack Elliot, Ray Brown and Carol Robbins. Professional orchestral and ensemble tours have included international venues throughout Germany, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the U.S. Along with maintaining a local studio in the Durham region for private harp instruction, she also holds the post of Adjunct Instructor of Harp with the State University of New York at Buffalo. Kristen regularly lends her talents to classical chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras throughout Ontario, and has appeared in the role of principal harpist for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Oshawa Symphony, the St. James Cathedral Choir/Orchestra, Tryptych Chamber Ensemble, the Durham Philharmonic, the Etobicoke Symphony and the Peterborough Symphony.
