This enthusiastic 7-piece Funk/Soul/R&B outfit had the standing room crowd in a partying mood with their innovative takes on such classics as 'Gloria', 'Kiss', and 'Wrap it Up'. "We make it impossible for people to have anything but a good time," boasted Martin Hayden, the band's front man. The band, now five years old, has been tearing up the GTA music scene, performing at such high-profile venues as the Chick 'n' Deli, P.K. Creek, and the Silver Dollar. "Playing these great bars lets everyone know we're here to keep the audience dancing, whether its 200 or 20,000 people," said Hayden, referring to their electrifying two-day stint at the Niagara Grape and Wine festival last year. The self-styled Saviors of Soul bring their own brand of funk to bars without warning or notice. "We're the guerillas of soul," said Ken Carty, the band's lead guitarist. "We hit fast and hard, then slip back into the night." Carty brings a lifetime of talent to the group, having been on the Toronto music scene for over forty years as singer/songwriter/performer in such acts as The Five Shy and Manchild. Carty and Hayden are in good company with a group of established musicians, having Eldon 'Sonny' Wingay on guitar as well. Wingay, like Carty, is another staple from Toronto's musical heyday, having played in Brutus of 'Funky Roller Skate' fame. Mike Sartor on saxophone spent many years leading big band brass sections in Reno, Nevada, while Danny Bourne began his career as drummer for locally renowned progressive-rock group Rhinegold, featuring a then-unknown Lawrence Gowan. The father-son team of Gary and Peter Floro on bass and keyboards connects the generation gap, respectively. If people haven't heard of Toronto Soul Revival by now, they will.
